Squint

What is squint?

A squint or strabismus is referred to a condition in the eyes where the alignment is improper. In this condition, one eye turns inwards, upwards, downwards, or outwards while another eye focuses on one spot.

What causes squint?

The squinting eye is caused by any type of nerve damage or problems caused in the eye muscles. If some muscles around the eyes become weaker than the others, they won’t be able to work together. The result is that one eye looks at one object and the other eye turns in a different direction.

This misalignment may be permanent or may appear on occasion. Squint is most typically seen in children; however, it can also manifest in adults.

What are the symptoms of Squint?

Here are the most common symptoms that can help you identify whether you or somebody you know is suffering from squint eye:

  • Eyes move independently of each other.
  • Crossed eyes
  • Double vision
  • Peripheral vision impairment or loss of vision in one eye
  • Depth perception issues

Can squint be corrected?

Most people think squint can’t be cured, but the truth is the eye can be straightened at any age.

Squint treatments are done based on four strategies:

  • Myopia therapy used for the restoration and correction of vision
  • Correction of deviation for various cosmetic purposes
  • Correction of deviation for preservation and restoration of the binocular vision
  • Prevention of diplopia
